when budding young singers, who write their own songs, play their own music and arrange their own gigs, perform, i'm all out for it. add a bunch of malaysian students and a foreign country to that equation, and i find myself bound to a moral obligation i cannot refuse. it doesn't even matter if their music isn't any good (but these guys were GREAT) or their genre wasn't really my cup of tea (hey, punk rock is cool, so Broken Scar hit my like button too), being there to support young people, inspiring people my age, doing what they love and embracing malaysian culture in the backdoor setup of a promiscously looking bar called Ms Libertine is worth the time and cold of a thursday night. i don't know why some people have to get behind so much science and philosophy and meaningful what-nots to enjoy themselves (he's not reading this i know, damnnit). i had a lot of fun that night that their rendition of Paramore's Wish Like That still rings in my head.

anwyays, Melissa is my coursemate, she's the lead singer of Saturday Afternoon. It was their last show because their guitarist Fariz was going home to Malaysia. Supporting acts that night were Broken Scar, Tee Yong and Asami.Both Broken Scar and Asami were impressionable. Kevin,the lead singer of BS reminds me of Jack White from the White Stripes. Asami on the other hand, with her high octane and powerful voice started off sounding like Miley Cyrus but she hit some really good notes when she sang her more emotional numbers. i heard she'll be launching her EP soon at the Worker's Bar on 14.08.10...i will keep you updated on that.
