midday news

last friday, i sneaked out of work to read the sport news for triple r as Nasya (our radio journalism lecturer) was looking for stand-ins. here's a little something...i stumbled a bit and i think i need to work on me 'speaking to one person at a time'. any thoughts?

nana

B: banana and organic malt free soymilk

L: home-packed organic natural yogurt with frozen mixed berries and fresh strawberries
i am NEVER going to buy prepacked yogurts ever again. this one is so fresh and yum!
none of those artificial fruits & sweetener. plus this is cheaper too!

D: The BF is unwell, so i cooked fish porridge.

I have been hooked on to Nana (the anime) lately. I know, it's ancient, but i've recently conjured up an interest in animes and mangas (except for Slam Dunk, it just wasn't my thing back then...oh how wrong was I!)

郁闷

i deleted the photos of my meals today by accident. it had pictures of my new bowl....

i guess only words shall do for now.

b: banana and dates oats.

l: unagi sushi roll, california sushi roll and a cup of miso.

d: oden, omelette with chinese chives and kimchi.

snack: 1 murcott mandarin before heading to sex and gender class.

there is also a constant you should add to this list everyday. 1 regular skinny capp. i have one almost everyday without fail that's why they don't even appear on the photoroll.

not that it's important.

i didn't realised my finger was bleeding last night until this morning when i saw blood stains on my wall, desk and lecture notes. how i did i bleed without even noticing is still a mystery to me.

then again,

many people bleed internally their whole lives without them noticing.

do they?

because the thought of going to work to not only face numbers but having to manipulate them, was dreadful to me. Big Guy, please don't turn this against me now and make me a Business reporter, please...

still, i stuck at it and worked from 9.30am to 3pm, without lunch break, just to reverse, re-reverse and re-re-reverse several transactions. and like an earthquake, it starts from a small split, which then leads to a crack, which then leads to a big giant hole in the earth...a transaction in one company affects the rest. all the while i keep telling myself if i can get this done, if i can manage what i hate most, i can manage things i do not hate better. i'm sure this mantra didn't make sense, because i said it on a sugar low.

i sure learnt a thing or two about double entry, but i learnt that there are things in this world that i'd most rather do than that. i can name you ten now.

a handy tip about accounting for non-accountants like me: clear your mind, take a pen and paper, and start by mapping out your transactions or workings. what comes in must go out. just think simple, because the more ballooned your non-accounting tuned mind gets, the deeper the rut you'll land yourself in.

and for accountants out there: just reach for the lolly if you're unhappy. i won't judge.

do accountants go to work happy?

b: twin sausage bun. not the first thing i would reach for in a bread shop, but tsu mei adores it, so i decided to give it a try. 5/10?

l: red bean bun. had during work.
d: oden (chikuwa, carrots, daikon, tofu, fishball and kelp knots), cos lettuce and kimchi

05 September 2010

been bad

b: rolled oats with strawberries and kiwi
l: kuri kinton (Japanese mashed sweet potato with chestnuts)

d: split green bean soup, oatcakes with cheese and raspberry jam

i got thrown off the healthy bandwagon lately. hence, in order to let my digestive system rest a bit, my meals today were in a form of either boiled, mashed or pureed.

end of MSFW

last night, Calvin, Munny, Ana and I went to see the RMIT Dangerous Goods Runway. the show featured works by fourth year RMIT fashion design students. there was a little bit for everybody, menswear, womenswear, lingerie, structured suits, evening wear, quirky, serious, fun, retro...everyone came out feeling very satisfied, because they certainly got more than they paid for. the show was very professionally executed, paying attention to every single detail from outfit designs, to song selections, to lighting and staging. most importantly, each student seemed to have establish a strong creative voice of their own, with many outfits being potentially marketable at national and even international levels. if the show is a landmark for the future of Melbourne's up and coming urban designers, the city's fashionado and fashionistas should start getting excited, and expect an influx of fresh, brilliant independent labels sashaying into local fashion foray.

a really good goodie bag

i now truly understand why journalists have to earn (!!) their rounds.

footnote: a Round (also known as a 'Beat' in the US) is a specialised area of reporting. Examples of Rounds are: politics, health, education, police, business, transport, sports, lifestyle, fashion, entertainment- music, films, technology, etc.

it takes a lot of legwork and in-depth knowledge of your particular round, because not only would you need your contacts (sources) so badly, like manna from heaven, you'd need to actually speak their lingo to be a good rounds reporter.

i walked in the shoes of a fashion rounds reporter today to cover the RMIT Dangerous Goods Runway/Exhibition that is taking place in line with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) 2010. having no prior contacts in this field, i had to really get down to the basics, ie jumping up and down outside their studio that has only high windows, tapping on the windows to attract attention, knocking on doors, finding out who i can speak to, etc. and getting through the front door is only the beginning, striking a solid conversation is another. journalism, to me, after peeling off the layers, is a form of relationship. it's about being (or appearing to be) genuinely interested in someone's life/story/dilemma/issue. and as a rounds reporter, you really need to know your stuff, lest you end up sounding and looking like a dim wit.

i survived. i walked out of the lion's den in one piece! nah. it wasn't that scary...in fact, they (the 4th RMIT Fashion Design students who were busy doing some final touch ups to their collection) were really helpful and nice. (i'm sure i won't get this lucky all the time).

i'm hoping to get last minute tickets to the show (really regret for not booking earlier now, they're all sold out!)

Phone recording booth-this is where we record our phone interviews, especially for radio journo.

sad and lonely

b: sweet potato & Korean black soymilk (given by ana...a little too sweet)

my view as i ate my brekkie...i wished i had a wide window like this at my own place!

d: green tea flavoured soba noodles, mix vege stir fry
note to self: that blue dish cloth looks ugly here. should've just used a white cloth.

for lunch i had pineapple bun on the go (not a wise choice). could not muster the guts to take a pic while eating it in public.

***

i realised, from yesterday's post that i like to look back on the past a lot. it hit me yesterday when i asked myself, 'what about the future?', that, i don't have a definite answer to that question. does anyone else feel the same, or is it just me?

so, from now on, i'm going to remind myself to look towards the future more, think about the present and the future more.

***

i walked around the city the entire afternoon. eventually i caught the city circle tram to Docklands in search for the RMIT Dangerous Goods Exhibition. they are scattered around the city and i wanted to look for the girl who got posted to such a dead place (poor girl). i need her as a source for my news story. alas, i could not find her...but look who i bumped into...

Graham 'grah-grah' Kennedy - "The King" of Australian TV in the 30s

John Farnham-60s/70s teen pop idol ...sang 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.."
poor guy now singing only to a tree... and yes, raindrops fall on his head a lot these days

now, you all know Dame Edna? i actually tot she was a Brit until now...oops
Dame Nellie Melba-Famous Australian Opera Singer in the early 19th century
Kylie Minogue. Poor Kylie, she looks horrible here

seeing them standing out there alone in the rain,  makes me sad and depressed.

i feel like crying.
