because the thought of going to work to not only face numbers but having to manipulate them, was dreadful to me. Big Guy, please don't turn this against me now and make me a Business reporter, please...
still, i stuck at it and worked from 9.30am to 3pm, without lunch break, just to reverse, re-reverse and re-re-reverse several transactions. and like an earthquake, it starts from a small split, which then leads to a crack, which then leads to a big giant hole in the earth...a transaction in one company affects the rest. all the while i keep telling myself if i can get this done, if i can manage what i hate most, i can manage things i do not hate better. i'm sure this mantra didn't make sense, because i said it on a sugar low.
i sure learnt a thing or two about double entry, but i learnt that there are things in this world that i'd most rather do than that. i can name you ten now.
a handy tip about accounting for non-accountants like me: clear your mind, take a pen and paper, and start by mapping out your transactions or workings. what comes in must go out. just think simple, because the more ballooned your non-accounting tuned mind gets, the deeper the rut you'll land yourself in.
and for accountants out there: just reach for the lolly if you're unhappy. i won't judge.
