dear friend,
you thanked me for a good one-to-one, heart-to-heart lunch cum afternoon tea. i replied that we are friends, not business partners, you don't have to thank me ( for having lunch with you). actually, deep down i wanted to thank you too. in fact i have much more to thank you for. the ride home from college, the (dangerous, risky, naughty) ride to and from the (then) boyfriend's place. the food you left at my door when i was sick. the high tolerance for my bad temper. and now, most importantly, thank you for considering me a good friend enough to share what you have shared with me yesterday.
i can honestly say, i was not a bit surprise. or should i say, any tinge of surprise was quickly overshadowed by the joy that i felt from you and for you. i've seen so many people around me, no matter what age or nationality, or social standing, spending their whole lives searching for 'love'. when you break it all down, love is nothing but a feeling, a sense of attachment , a sense of belonging and responsibility. i like to call it a partnership, rather than a relationship, because a partnership encompasses a relationship and much more.
judging by the way our peers (including myself) struggling to find a good partner, i'm more than happy that you've at least found someone that you can confidently say that ,despite the challenges that you may face because of this relationship, it's still worth fighting for. and i believe, once others see that joy in you, they will understand.
i will forever remember this: me, slumped in the passenger seat of your car, riding home from uni, hurt and angry at his betrayal, tears rolling silently down my cheeks. and you just sat there quietly, driving home as usual. i'm sure somewhere down the road, you will have moments like these. but just remember, that we'll be there by your side, we'll take over the steering wheel and drive you safely home.
xoxo,
crystal
